Every year, we hire a team of Pepperdine students to work with the University Church. Undergraduate students may apply and interview to work as a Team Leader, Team Member, or Office Worker. Read on to learn about each of the responsibilities of each role, or apply online for the 2020-21 academic year.
As a team leader, you will work closely with the college ministers to organize and lead one of five teams of student staff members who will execute various ministry tasks. This is a leadership role. When you apply to be a team leader, you are applying to lead, mentor and hold your team members accountable for their work responsibilities.

As a team member, you are essential to the success of all our ministry areas. You will be hired and supervised by a student team leader. Together with your fellow team members and your team leader, you will carry out work responsibilities and objectives that minister to the UCC community.

Our office is the heartbeat of our ministry and our student workers keep the pulse pumping. We are looking for motivated students to greet visitors, answer phone calls, and help create a welcoming space. This role is designed for students who enjoy a behind the scenes type role and are self disciplined with an eye towards organization. The workload for UCC Office Workers is 4-6 hours per week.

The Well Team Leader
The Well is the weekly student worship service of the University Church. Designed to bring students of all denominational backgrounds together, The Well focuses on unity of the Body of Christ on campus. The Well Team Leader will coordinate this service, working with our worship leader, the student band, and the campus ministers in order to execute and improve this service, with an eye toward bringing students together to worship Jesus.
The ideal candidate will have a heart for worshipping Jesus through music, crossing denominational/racial/cultural/other barriers in the pursuit of unity, and drawing a community together on a consistent weekly basis.
-Meet weekly with The Well leadership team
-Support the execution of The Well each week
-Partner with the A/V supervisor
-manage all social media: creating video content, interviewing band, polls for music, etc
-coordinate outreach/evangelism to student groups on campus
-Craft a partnership with the RA and SLA program
-Draw upon outside sources to integrate new worship practices in our community
-Work on establishing critical partnerships between UCC + House Church resident members
-Coordinate with Cecily for the design/printing of community building merchandise
Life Groups Team Leader
Life Groups are mid-week small group gatherings. They are times to connect on a more personal level than is possible in our congregational gatherings. Life Groups seek to connect students with Jesus via our intergenerational community, to encourage the transformation the occurs around a shared table.
The ideal candidate will have a heart for connecting people, for pursuing relationships with mentors and mentees, and for guiding conversations about integrating faith and daily life.
-Meet weekly with college minister to develop Life Group curriculum
-Partner with UCC resident members for hosting of Life Groups
-Work with the Convo office to coordinate club convo credit
-Coordinate and execute monthly training of Life Group Leaders
-Coordinate placements and marketing for Life Groups
House Church Team Leader
House Church is the Saturday Night service of UCC. It seeks to capture the elements present in the first days of the church, as our congregation shares a meal, spends time worshipping Jesus through music, learning, and discussion. We meet in a home on campus and worship outdoors, taking full advantage of our beautiful Malibu location.
-Meet weekly with campus ministers and House Church coordinator
-Coordinate marketing and invitations to House Church and events
-Lead House Church student team in executing necessary weekly tasks
-Oversee mid-week communication with congregation
-Coordinate weekly shared meal
Sunday Morning Team Leader
The Sunday morning worship service is our primary weekly gathering . Since 1970, it has been a place for our intergenerational church community to worship, take communion, and hear the preaching of the Word.
-Meet weekly with college ministers
-Attend monthly Servant Leader meetings
-Build student volunteer team to lead elements of the service
-Oversee set up of Sunday morning signage
-Support member/student connections
-Meet with and support the regular activities of UCC (kickoff Sunday desserts, potlucks, end of year pancake breakfast, etc)
Youth Ministry Team Leader
The Youth Ministry Team Leader will play a primary role in discipling teens from our UCC congregation and the Malibu community. The Youth Ministry team leader will help play the weekly gathering, Sunday morning Bible class, and facilitate retreats and other youth group adventures.
-Meet weekly with college ministers
-Assist with the planning/leading of the weekly youth group gathering (Wed 7-8pm)
-Assist with the planning/leading of the weekly youth group Bible class (Sunday 9-10am)
-Participate in regular youth group activities
-Attend and lead youth group retreats
