Our ministries are designed to form us to look like Jesus, prepare us for kingdom work, and cultivate spaces where each person knows they belong. This is how each of our ministry teams contributes to this work — and how you can use your gifts and passions to serve in and through our community.
Operational Ministries
Technical
Our Technical ministry provides audio, visual, and Zoom support to our worship experiences by:
- Running A/V for Family Worship (our Sunday morning worship service) and all other church events (e.g., special worship events, fellowship events, workshops, seminars, weddings, funerals, receptions).
- Recording sermons and pertinent Bible classes, completing light post-production, and uploading recordings to the church's Youtube channel.
- Being trained, and in turn training new team members.
Please note that no experience is necessary to join!
Finance
Our Finance ministry manages our community’s financial resources by:
- Scheduling regular meetings with the Pastoral Care and Oversight Council and the Bookkeeper to ensure strong resonance between the Finance ministry and the spiritual goals and vision of the Council.
- Working with church leadership to develop an annual budget.
- Generating quarterly financial reports and updating the church leadership and the members.
- Collaborating with the Pastoral Care and Oversight Council, Missions (Global Partners) ministry, Benevolence (Local Partners) ministry, Adult Education ministry, and Teaching Cohort to provide teaching and training in financial stewardship.
Partnership Ministries
Benevolence
Our Benevolence ministry prayerfully discerns how the church provides financial support to individuals, ministries, and parachurch organizations that make financial requests by:
- Preparing the congregation for the annual Benevolence offering.
- Gathering and distributing resources to local ministries, nonprofits, and individuals in need.
- Maintaining communication with and distributing financial support to local ministry partners, such as local nonprofit organizations.
- Developing an annual plan for engaging in Benevolence and presenting the plan to the congregation.
- Building relationships with local partners and relaying important information back to the church.
- Organizing information for the annual Benevolence contribution.
- Hosting an annual dinner with local partners to discuss our work together.
Missions
Our Missions ministry prayerfully discerns how the church provides financial support to missionaries and missionary efforts by:
- Preparing the congregation for the annual Missions contribution.
- Maintaining regular communication with the Pastoral Care and Oversight Council to connect the work of the missionaries to the spiritual goals and vision of the Council.
- Developing an annual plan for engaging in Missions and presenting the plan to the congregation.
- Providing regular support, resources, and encouragement to our missionaries.
- Maintaining regular communication with our missionaries.
- Regularly updating the congregation about our global work and providing avenues for members to directly contact and encourage our missionaries.
- Fostering a sense of connection between our church family and the missionaries we support.
Worship Ministries
Music
Our Music ministry leads our church in the practice of singing during worship events by:
- Planning Family Worship, in collaboration with the ministry staff, to align with the spiritual goals and vision of the Pastoral Care and Oversight Council.
- Developing a Christ-centered theology of worship.
- Scheduling and notifying the song leader and/or praise team participants of their role in worship each week.
- Collaborating with the Council, Adult Education ministry, and Teaching Cohort to provide classes devoted to the theology of worship and worship activities.
- Working with other ministries to provide support for their worship activities.
Adult Education
Our Adult Education ministry oversees our Adult Bible classes and supports our teacher cohort by:
- Developing a yearly program of study for the church in collaboration with the Teaching Cohort.
- Recruiting and preparing teachers for the Teaching Cohort.
- Providing resource materials and equipment for teachers.
- Organizing special events and speakers for the congregation and the local community.
Welcome
Our Welcome ministry provides refreshments for Family Worship and other church gatherings by:
- Developing an annual plan for showing hospitality to new and current members and presenting the plan to the congregation.
- Organizing and providing refreshments before Family Worship.
- Cultivating a sense of welcome at church gatherings.
- Assisting other ministries in their fellowship activities.
Hospitality
Our Hospitality ministry shows hospitality to members and visitors by:
- Greeting people before Family Worship and other church experiences.
- Cultivating hospitality and belonging at church gatherings.
- Serving communion during Family Worship.
Prayer
Our Prayer ministry enters and invites the church into intentional times of prayer by:
- Praying for church members, the Pastoral Care and Oversight Council, the ministry staff, and others connected to our church community.
- Mobilizing the church to pray for specific needs of congregants, local and global partners, the Pepperdine community, and those in Malibu and other surrounding towns.
- Developing an annual prayer campaign in collaboration with the Lead Minister.
Communion
Our Communion ministry prepares the elements for our weekly celebration of the Lord's Supper by:
- Preparing the crackers and the juice on Sunday mornings.
- Transporting and setting up the bread and the juice before Family Worship starts.
- Cleaning up the elements and washing the dishes after the service.
Zoom
Our Zoom ministry cultivate community among our church members who Zoom in on Sundays by:
- Asking for and keeping track of prayer requests.
- Facilitating conversation before and after church.
- Communicating with church leadership about people who haven't been present in awhile.
Community Ministries
Life Together
Our Life Together ministry organizes community- and relationship-building experiences for our congregation by:
- Creating a yearly plan to foster fun, community-building activities.
- Planning 6-8 community-building experiences for the church annually.
- Fostering mentorship and meaningful multigenerational relationships throughout our church.
Young Adults
Our Young Adults ministry fosters community for those in our church community who are experiencing young adulthood by:
- Planning monthly gatherings or activities for the young adults who attend church.
- Meeting and connecting with new graduate students and young professionals who join our church community.
- Regularly communicating with the young adults via group messaging on What’s App and one-on-one connections.
- Cultivating a sense of community among young adults.
Seniors
Our Seniors ministry contributes to this work by fostering community for those in our church community who are experiencing later-life transitions. For the older members of our Seniors ministry, the roles and responsibilities of this ministry include:
- Recognizing and supporting the needs and contributions of our church members who are transitioning to empty nests, grandchildren, and/or retirement.
- Communicating regularly with the seniors via group messaging and one-on-one connections.
- Addressing the needs of senior members as they arise (e.g., providing transportation, running errands, changing lightbulbs, hanging pictures, sharing a cup of coffee or a meal).
Youth Mentorship and Care Team
Our Youth Mentorship and Care Team provides presence and mentorship to our youth group students on a weekly basis by:
- Participating in weekly Youth Group meetings on Wednesdays.
- Occasionally sharing lessons or devotionals.
- Leading small group conversations.
- Checking in with students beyond Wednesday night.
- Caring and praying for students beyond the one hour per week.
Parent Advisory for the Youth Group
Our Parent Advisory for the Youth Group serves as a support system and sounding board to the Youth and Family Minister by:
- Praying with the Youth and Family Minister in preparation for ministry.
- Communicating with the Youth and Family Minister on behalf of families.
- Offering advice and encouragement in the planning and execution of Youth and Family events.
